Lyn Gamwell
Lyn is a counsellor and psychotherapist whose work is informed by Existential and Person Centred approaches. Lyn’s style is non-directive and is grounded in the relationship that develops between client and therapist. She views the therapeutic journey as one of uncovering and discovery, an unfolding of awareness into ways of being in the world and an exploration of new possibilities and greater choice.
Lyn has a background in community welfare where she has worked as a counsellor, emergency relief assessor and trainer of psychology and counselling interns. She continues to work part-time in the NGO sector, working with families under stress and counselling women who have experienced domestic violence.
Lyn’s training in this field was undertaken at the Australian College of Applied Psychology. Further studies followed, primarily with an Existential focus, a philosophical approach in which freedom and responsibility are major themes. Lyn continues to undertake professional development and training and to undertake her own psychotherapy to help her continue to grow personally.
Lyn’s capacity for empathy and presence has expanded through the practice of meditation across various disciplines. Her insight into the power of words was developed over many years of work in corporate communication.
